Welcome back after the Easter break, we hope you've all had a relaxing time and are ready for another great term in Year 5!
This half term we will be looking at our topic 'Was it a disaster?' all about mining in the past. We will specifically be looking at our local history and the Whitwick mining disaster. We will also be studying the formation and use of coal vs other renewable resources, different parliamentary acts and regulations around this and well known coal mining and pit artists such as George Bissill amongst much more! In our English we will continue with our write stuff topics, starting off with the fantastic poem The Malfeasance by Alan Bold. Where we will look at rhyming patterns and descriptive features used by the poet to create fear and tension. We will also be working on our SPAG skills and using this to help edit and improve our work. In Maths we will be continuing on with our resilience and thinking skills when it comes to solving problems, using tools we have already worked on to tackle them logically. We are all working so hard on our times tables and our weekly 99 club challenges, don't forget to keep practicing and use your TTRockstars log in for extra practice! PE will be on Mondays and Wednesdays so please make sure you come to school in your PE kits. Don't forget to look on Facebook for all the exciting things we will be doing this half term!
